Bespoke Room Divider & Open-Plan Zoning, Surrey.

The owners of this beautiful modern home wanted to break up their open-plan kitchen and lounge without losing the sense of space, creating distinct zones for cooking, dining and relaxing while keeping light flowing freely through the house.

Being a structural engineer, the client came with definite ideas of their own. The design process was genuinely collaborative, their technical knowledge and our design and sustainability expertise working together to arrive at a solution that was structurally considered, beautiful and built to last.

The client chose to work with us specifically for our sustainable credentials. We advised on low-toxicity, low-carbon materials and glueless construction methods throughout, ensuring every element can be repurposed or adapted in the future.

The resulting room divider combines bespoke backless shelving allowing light and sight lines to pass through from both zones with cabinetry on the kitchen side for crockery storage and an integrated TV media wall on the lounge side. Plants and ornaments inhabit the shelving, bringing the biophilic quality the clients wanted into the heart of the home.
