Some briefs arrive fully formed. This one came with a theme, a venue and an irresistible creative challenge: design and build a complete fairytale retail interior for Top Drawer and a series of children’s trade fairs , a fully immersive stand that could be dismantled, packed away and reassembled in different forms across multiple shows.

This was a full design and make commission. We were responsible for everything: spatial planning of the stand layout, wall treatments, wallpaper, paint, graphics and all bespoke furniture and props, every element designed and made by Nested Living in our Oxfordshire workshop.

The brief was a fairytale theme — furniture and an environment that would stop visitors in their tracks, tell a story and showcase product beautifully, all while being robust enough to travel and flexible enough to be reconfigured for different show formats.

We designed and handcrafted a complete suite of bespoke wooden pieces: a wardrobe, bed, chest of drawers, giftwrap display unit, card display unit, shelving units, giant building blocks, a set of three toadstools and a giant toy train. The details carry the fairytale language throughout — novelty glass swirl knobs imitating lollipop sticks, heart-shaped hooks, and gently undulating curves in every piece for a playful, storybook feel.

The walls were treated with fairytale-appropriate wallpaper, paint and graphics — creating a complete environment rather than simply a furniture display. Every spatial decision was made to draw visitors in, guide them through the stand and make the products feel at home in their story.

Everything was designed for disassembly and reassembly, practical and reusable across multiple trade fairs, without losing any of its magic in the process.
